A premium worth paying.
French carmaker Renault have, without much fanfare, introduced a rather imported limited-run variant to its local Captur range, which offers a bit more in the way of power & posh for a relatively small outlay. Dubbed the Captur S-Edition, the new model demands a $1,000 premium over the Intens model on which it’s based but, arguably, it’s worth the extra dosh.
Under the bonnet there’s a new engine on offer, one with greater poke & efficiency than the standard model. It’s a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol, developed jointly with Mercedes-Benz (and presently employed in the new A-Class hatchback), producing a healthy 110kW and 250Nm. Power still got to the front wheels though, through the same 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Despite the extra poke, the S-Edition uses less fuel: Just 5.4L/100km is needed (or they claim), which is 0.4L/100km less than the standard 1.2L turbo-petrol engine. And we’ve reason to believe the larger mill is more refined, too.
It’s not all about the engine, though. S-Edition models gain unique 17-inch alloys, a Diamond Black roof, and S-Edition badging on the outside. Open the doors and you’re greeted by a cabin upholstered in Alcantara, a Bose audio system, blue contrast stitching, and S-Edition sill-plates.
