The European EV van king will not be unseated.

This interesting Renault commercial concept, the Kangoo ZE, might seem unfamiliar to us, but it’s a dime a dozen in Europe. The Kangoo ZE makes up a whopping 46.2% of all zero-emissions light commercial vans in the continent, and this concept is a preview of how Renault will aim to keep that leadership when the Kangoo range gets renewed in 2020.

“The Kangoo ZE Concept is an urban and electric show-car that foreshadows the renewal of the Kangoo range, expected from 2020. Representing the vision of a mobile workshop, it can be adapted to the changes of working and mobility modes.” – Renault

Despite them saying that the Kangoo ZE Concept’s design gives us a peek at the look of the next-gen model, the French company was surprisingly light on technical details that people would be most interested in. What we should be able to expect are things like a 3-phase on-board charger for faster rejuicing, as well as a larger and better-integrated battery than the 33kWh battery pack in the current model.

Renault design boss Laurens van den Acker, the Kangoo ZE Concept is very nearly production-ready, with only 20% differentiation between the concept and the production model. It integrates Renault’s latest design language quite seamlessly, and features things like like the green detailing from the EZ-Pro autonomous delivery machine that we saw last September in Hannover.
