The GT-Line, GT, and RS soldier on.

Doing a little spring cleaning, Renault’s local office has decided to simplify the offering of their sharply-styled Megane models, removing all but the Renault Sport models of the mid-sizer on sale. This move they say not only better reflects Australian preferences, but also helps put Renault Sport front-and-centre as a halo brand for the marque.

As such the Megane lineup now consists of the GT-Line, the GT, and the full-fat Megane RS. The former two continue to offer saloon, hatch, and estate bodystyles, while the Megane RS (of course) remains a hatchback-only proposition.

This is similar to the strategy employed by Ford with its smaller Fiesta, which you will only be able to get locally as a hotted-up ST. Holden also previously offered the Insignia VXR without any backup singers, and Volkswagen’s done the same thing with the Scirocco R. This move, we agree, better reflects Australian buying habits, with only 15 non-Renault Sport Meganes sold this year so far, while 155 sportier models have found homes in the same timeframe.
