Renault’s French Connection: Megane Trophy and Trophy-R Pricing Outed

Just recently, Renault Australia announced the pricing for their highly anticipated, limited edition Trophy and Trophy-R variants of the newest Megane R.S..

Unveiled back in May, the R.S. Trophy-R is derived from an R.S. Trophy that’s been made lighter with a more aggressive setup. All the goodies from the optional Cup Chassis pack are carried over such the Torsen limited slip differential, firmer shocks and stiffer springs, among others.

The Trophy-R takes weight reduction seriously as evidenced with the omission of the rear seats, monocoque bucket seats, Akrapovic titanium exhausts, carbon fibre rear diffuser, vented carbon fibre bonnet, lighter rear axle and lithium-ion battery. That’s a loss of 130kg. The feather-light track weapon also utilises adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers and exclusive sticky Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

The Trophy-R broke the lap record at the infamous Nordschleife for a front-wheel drive car with a time of 7 minutes 40.1 seconds previously held by the FK8 Honda Civic Type R. To celebrate this momentous occasion, the company has built 32 special-edition examples.

Dubbed the Megane R.S. Trophy-R Record Breaking, only one example of this uber-rare hot hatch will arrive on our shores and will be auctioned off when it lands in early 2020. The Record Breaking is based on the same specifications as the Megane RS Trophy-R that broke the lap record earlier this year, albeit with carbon fibre wheels and carbon composite brakes.

Powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 224kW and 400Nm, the Trophy-R will accomplish the century sprint in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 262km/h. The Trophy variant is powered by the same engine.
