Have you felt left out as a tradie, because manufacturers tend to make hot, look-at-me go-faster special editions of passenger cars, and leave their commercial models out in the cold? Well good news! For another year, French carmaker Renault has fielded a special edition of its Trafic van, fitted with Formula One themed additions to celebrate the company’s involvement in the sport.
For the uninitiated, Renault’s been dressing up Trafic vans every year for a while now, adding bits and bobs to nod towards their participation in what’s considered to be the world’s premier motorsport. This year, Trafic Formula vans (available in standard- and long-wheelbase guises get a variety of yellow exterior highlights, as well as a blacked-out Renault lozenge up front.
The yellow contrasts particularly well with the two shades offered for the Trafic Formula, namely Storm Grey or Jet Black. You’ll also find 17-inch alloy wheels, which also feature yellow accents, namely on the centre caps. The exterior revisions are then capped off with new LED daytime running lights, integrated into the front bumper besides the foglights.
Inside, Trafic Formula passengers will enjoy the ‘Dark Java’ fabric trim that’s exclusive to the model, as well as the ‘premium’ dashboard, 7-inch infotainment system, chrome accents for the dials, and unique floormats.
There’s a 1.6-litre litre mill in the Trafic Formula, just like in Formula 1, except in every possible way. The Trafic utilises a biturbo diesel mill putting out 103kW and 340Nm, with a six-speed manual gearbox. The Trafic Formula standard wheelbase starts at $41,990 (before ORCs), while the long wheelbase model will set you back $43,490.
