Saab 9-3X – That’s Swedish For ‘All-Rounder’

It’s doubtful cricket is a big-time sport in chilly Sweden but the term ‘all-rounder’ certainly applies to the handsome Saab 9-3X wagon.

Priced from $59,800 the stylish Saab 9-3X is a Euro-wagon – for those who desire style and practicality, but not SUV dimensions. It compares favourably with the all-wheel-drive Volvo V70 and Volkswagen Passat wagons.

Styling is distinctly Scandinavian and the short overhang/steeply raked tailgate combine to give the Saab 9-3X a purposeful, modern look that stands out from the wagon crowd.

Power comes from Saab’s 154kW/300Nm, turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine and the Saab 9-3X drives all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and XWD all-wheel-drive system with an electronic rear limited-slip differential.

Inside are the high standard quality trim and design seen in the Saab Aero range – lots of leather, a dark metallic finish for the door trims and the hallmark curved instrument panel.

As we head into our chilly months, the Saab 9-3X wagon – in reality designed as a winter ‘getaway’ vehicle in Sweden – seems ideally kitted for snowbirds and weekend adventurers. The self-leveling four-link suspension features a 35mm-raised ride height and the four-wheel ventilated brake discs run full-size shields to keep mud, dust and snow away.
