A substantially updated version of the Skoda Fabia will be launched toward latter half of 2018, but prior to that will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show due to take place in March, one with some “state-of-the-art technology” according to the automaker.
Because it isn’t being teased as a next-generation model, we’re expecting it to remain largely similar to the current generation car despite parent company Volkswagen rolling out altogether new Polo (6th-generation), a model on which the Fabia takes its lead, based on their MQB platform.
Continuing this third-generation version that was first introduced in 2014, focus of this 2018 update largely surrounds the Fabia’s exterior as is being teased in the digital sketch. Pick apart its exaggerated angles and there’s plenty of parallels to the design we’re used to seeing in showrooms, leaving us wondering where exactly have they focused their efforts if not in its face.
Skoda have said that this newer car will now be available as standard with LED headlights and LED rear lights, bringing a somewhat premium feature to the brand’s less expensive model. Other than that, we expect the Fabia to remain mechanically identical to the car currently available.
If that’s the case, it will be primarily powered by a 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol four-cylinder, ranging in output from 66kW to 81kW, while torque varies from 160Nm to 175Nm. Other markets also use a smaller 1.0-litre three-cylinder for propulsion or a 1.4-litre TDI turbodiesel.
