We applaud their decision to stick with the big saloon.

Skoda is one of those companies that just think about things a little bit longer than other people, and fix the sort of issues that don’t usually get the attention Skoda gives them. Things like the ice scraper in the fuel filler cap (that’s also a magnifying glass), the built-in umbrellas, and so on. We get behind their tagline of being ‘Simply Clever’ because flatly, they really are.

So when we received the sketch-teaser of the new Superb, to us, it looked like Skoda doing what it does best. It knows the rage now surrounds the SUV (and have responded accordingly with the Kodiaq, Karoq, and Kamiq), but they know that smart money will save the extra cash and stick with their saloon car. And so the Superb will be made smarter, sharper, and more appealing than ever before, and pack the brand’s latest innovations, as the Superb has since the 1930s.

It’s worth noting that the new Superb isn’t exactly a ‘new Superb’; This will be a facelift of the current car, one that’ll introduce the sort of creature-comforts and technological innovations that are expected of a large car of its stature, particularly one favoured by fleet buyers, hire-car drivers, as well as family buyers. They should take to the new face with its more distinctive headlights, and bold fog-light surrounds. In the back (which we can’t see), Skoda says that the badge is gone – in its place, the ‘Skoda’ lettering will stretch across the width of the bootlid between the taillights.

The facelifted Skoda Superb will be making its debut at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, an event that Skoda has been the main sponsor & vehicle partner of since 1993. Celebrating 27-years of partnership between Skoda and the IIHF-IHWC, Skoda will take the title of being the first carmaker to globally premiere a new model on the World Championship stage.
