Jet plane features join the car industry again when the all-new Infiniti Q50 debuts electronic steer-by-wire technology.
Due later this year, Infiniti’s all-new premium mid-size sedan ramps-up driving dynamics with the system which allows the driver to choose a desired form of steering feel.
Naturally – again like aircraft – Infiniti’s steer-by-wire technology comes with multiple back-up systems (including conventional mechanical linkages).
Available on selected Q50 models, the so-called ‘Direct Adaptive Steering’ has been extensively tested at the Tochigi Test Track in Japan by triple F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel – Infiniti’s ‘Director Of Performance’.
The systems presents multiple options for the driver to choose via simple touch-screen controls – you select both response and weight – and these car be stored in a memory menu.
Q50, Infiniti’s rival to the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C Class will be offered with either 2.2-litre turbo-diesel or 3.5-litre petrol-hybrid powerplants when it goes on-sale later this year.
