Subaru wants big changes to be personified in their next Impreza
Later this month at the 2016 New York Auto Show is where and when Subaru has chosen to reveal their next Impreza, marking a return to brand’s most recognisable model.
Subaru say that the all-new 2017 Impreza will be feature a complete redesign, inside and out. It’s been said time and time again that the no-nonsense interior layouts are an achilles heel, severely impeding them from acquiring new customers especially when other automakers – not just the premium ones - are getting more and more adept at bringing higher quality design and materials into their cabins.
Of course, Subaru’s calling card, their Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system will naturally be fitted to this upcoming Impreza just as it is with every other model they sell, except for the BR-Z.
The 2017 Impreza will also sit on Subaru’s new SGP platform that has improved torsional rigidity while being lighter weight. The new platform importantly allows Subaru to expand into other avenues such as hybrid powertrains as well as autonomous driving and safety technology.
Also up for debut would be their newer generation of lighter and more efficient versions of their flat-four boxer engines (with or without a turbocharger).
We’ll have to wait until the man from Subaru pulls the wraps off the car in question at the NY Auto Show. Our guess, as well as our hope, is that the next car will be relatively unchanged from the Impreza sedan and hatchback concepts (those red and silver cars, pictured above and below) that were shown at last year’s Tokyo and Los Angeles Motor Shows.
A resurgent Impreza and a stronger Subaru would be a great addition to the motoring landscape.
