The NSW-based NRMA has found the Suzuki Alto GL retains its position as Australia’s cheapest car to run – averaging just $89.81 per week (over five years).

Average weekly fuel bill for the Suzuki Alto was determined to be only $24 and the rest is a calculation incorporating purchase price, depreciation, maintenance and insurance. That works out to be 31 cents per kilometer.

The NRMA survey found some rival light cars could cost upwards of $200 per week.

Suzuki vehicles also commanded the top three positions in the NRMA survey’s compact SUV segment with the Jimny Sierra (manual and automatic) rated at $130.39 per week and Grand Vitara (manual) averaging $155.16.

In the mid-size sedan segment, Suzuki’s good-looking Kizashi was quoted at $182.18 per week – the cheapest naturally-aspirated vehicle.

The NRMA survey covered more than 1,200 vehicles.

“The results speak for themselves and we are extremely proud of this recognition by NRMA,” explained Suzuki Australia’s General Manager, Tony Devers. “The Suzuki mantra of providing quality, reliable and value-packed products couldn’t be more evident than in our award-winning lineup of vehicles.
