Suzuki Australia is introducing a new turbocharged Vitara crossover called the S Turbo to sit at the top of the Vitara range.
Armed with a list of new features and improved figures, the new Vitara S Turbo is the car that Suzuki is pegging on to take the fight to competitors such as the Mazda CX-3.
Starting with a drive away price of $29,990, the Vitara S Turbo comes either as a 2WD or 4WD model, with the addition of Suzuki’s ALLGRIP all-wheel drive system bringing the Vitara’s ceiling price of $32,990.
Powered by a 1.4-litre direct injection turbocharged engine producing 105kW and 220Nm of torque, the newly-developed Boosterjet engine uses a cleverly packaged turbocharger attached directly to the cylinder head and incorporates the exhaust manifold into the cylinder head.
To the average person, this translate to a significant reduction in turbo lag and greater fuel economy (Suzuki claims 5.9-litres/100km on a combined cycle) due to the more efficient gas flow and minimal heat loss from due to the tightly integrated design.
In addition to the engine, the European designed and manufactured Vitara S Turbo includes standard premium features such as a set of 17-inch black alloy wheels, LED headlamps, leather and suede seat upholstery, and an Apple CarPlay-compatible infotainment system with satellite navigation.
Speaking on the launch of the new Vitara S Turbo, Suzuki Australia General Manager of Automobiles, Andrew Moor, said: “With many customers in small hatches considering compact SUV’s, we offer what our competitors can’t – better performance and value combined with light car fuel economy,”
“The challenge now for Suzuki is to build awareness of Vitara, to ensure that we’re on the shopping list for those considering a compact SUV. I strongly believe that if more Mazda CX-3 or Honda HR-V customers had experienced the Vitara, there would have been many different purchase outcomes.”
