American electric carmaker Tesla is planning to bring about an update to its new Model 3 Performance, which will add a ‘Track Mode’ as an option for drivers who are keen to live dangerously. The ‘track mode’ was discovered by YouTuber Marques Brownlee (@mkbhd), who then posted a video on his Instagram showing the new mode in action.

After US publication Motor Authority reached out to Tesla for clarification, the company confirmed that ‘Track Mode’ is indeed in development, though it isn’t yet planned for customer availability. The mode takes the greatest advantage of the two motor’s torque & slip distribution, while also fine-tuning the cooling system, simulating a limited-slip differential through the brakes, and  it even tweaks the stability control (but doesn’t fully disengage it).

These tweaks come from changes made through Tesla’s in-house vehicle-dynamics controller, which Tesla says gives them greater control over the capabilities of the Model 3 Performance. However, as said earlier the Track Mode isn’t yet ready for customer release with small tweaks and adjustments required before it eventually gets rolled out as part of software updates for the model.

Earlier this week, Tesla reportedly began asking for “meaningful” amounts of money to be ‘refunded’ to the company by its suppliers, as part of a bid by the firm to get itself into a position of positive cashflow within the second-half of this year.
