Two all-new three-cylinder engines (1.5-litre and 1.2-litre) highlight the all-new Mini range which has been unveiled in Europe. There’s also a new 1.4-litre, three-cylinder turbo diesel.
The all-turbocharged lineup is:
Mini Cooper S (141kW/280Nm 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol)
Mini Cooper (100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre, three-cylinder petrol)
Mini One (75kW/180Nm 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol)
Mini Cooper D (85kW/270Nm 1.5-litre, three-cylinder diesel)
Styling is an evolution which of course maintains the hallmark Mini proportions but the latest generation is longer, wider, taller and more aerodynamic (Cd down to 0.28). The wheelbase is also longer which provides more room inside and even larger seats.
Fuel tank capacity has been boosted by 51-litres to 211-litres and the rear-seat offers a 60:40 split-fold for load-carrying versatility.
Inside too the new Mini has been transformed while still remaining true to its heritage – there’s a new instrument cluster on the steering column, new lighting colours and an optional 8.8-inch centre console screen. There’s also an available head-up display and infotainment system with Mini Connected XL
Underneath is a new suspension set-up which is lighter and the chassis is more rigid. Combined with new power steering, ESC, dynamic traction control and an electronic differential plus new 15-inch, 16-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels, the newcomer enhances the go-kart like handling which is a Mini staple.
Mini Australia will announce local specifications and pricing closer to launch.
