2018 Toyota HiLux SR5 - Australia

Ahead of its on-sale availability from October 6th, Toyota Australia have revealed details of their revised HiLux range for the 2018 model year, the first significant update the best-selling pick-up has seen the launch of this 8th-generation version.

Toyota is basing these changes on a comprehensive owner feedback campaign that’s fed through the nationwide dealer network over the past two years, adapting to a market that has had changing demands. For example, automatic transmissions have started to outsell manual variants and is expected to increase from the 60/40 percent split it’s at currently.

As a result, the 2018 HiLux range will offer 17 variants available with an automatic compared to the 12 variants that were available previously. In addition, Toyota is also experiencing larger-than-expected demand for the 2WD Hi-Rider and have expanded those offerings from 3 to 5 choices.

Additionally, buyers of the 4x4 HiLux SR can, for an extra $2,000, get a selection of higher-end features that were previously reserved for the range-topping SR5 such as satellite navigation and alloy wheels.

Those SR Double Cabs will also arrive with at a $70 price increase, but comes with inclusion of downhill assist control, PVR flooring, and black door handles while the SR5’s price has ticked up by $50 but does receive LED fog lamps and a tailgate lock. Contrarily, other HiLux SR variants have been reduced by $80.

Naturally, the turbodiesel engine HiLuxes make up the vast majority of units sold and here the 2.4- and 2.8-litre four-cylinder motors return. They former produces 110kW and 343Nm (manual) or 400Nm (auto) while the latter generates 130kW and 420Nm (manual) or 450Nm (auto).

A single petrol engine remains on the post-2017 model year HiLux with slow-selling 4.0-litre V6 being dropped from the range entirely, leaving only the 122kW/245Nm 2.7-litre four-cylinder remaining in the 4x2 WorkMate single and double cabs.
