Today, Toyota has announced a recall for roughly 12,000 HiAce vans, built between 2009 and 2012, over issues that the automatic transmissions may jam in certain positions.
The announcement further details that vehicles with the offending transmissions may experience issues where the gear selector “may not match the expected vehicle behaviour.” As far as we can work out, that either means that the gear selected may not match the position of the gear lever, or that the gear lever won’t budge from certain positions.
Toyota expressed concerns of increased accident risk should the issue occur. A list of VIN numbers of affected vehicles can be viewed here.
