Toyota has updated its seven seater people mover, the Tarago, to offer added kit as standard to go with a lowered price tag. The revision has not, however, yielded the mild facelift that was given to the Japanese-spec Estima.

Tony Cramb, Toyota Australia’s executive director of sales and marketing, said: "Families and business owners will appreciate that Tarago's renowned space, comfort and quality have been enhanced by a more upscale interior and even better value due to expanded levels of equipment and sharper pricing.”

The lowered prices can yield a savings of as much as $1,716 off the previous list price of the top-spec V6 Ultima, but other variants will see a price drop of around $1,500, bringing the entry-level GLi to $45,490.

3D Satellite navigation is now standard across the range while the interior feel has been given a touch of extra quality with a more liberal use of black soft-touch material on the dashboard and piano-black surface finishes on the centre stack and air vents, and updated switchgear which uses electrostatic buttons.

The instrument cluster now incorporates a 4.2-inch multi-info display and below that is a 6.1-inch touch-screen infotainment display also shows the feed for the reversing camera. A new three-spoke steering wheel with function buttons with tops off the standard interior revision.

However, the more expensive V6 GLX and Ultima gain new premium heated seats that are quilted in a suede-like black fabric with faux leather bolsters. They are also now fitted with high-intensity discharge headlamps and adaptive cornering lights. As before, the top-spec Ultima retains its dual moonroof and nine-inch rear passenger ceiling-mounted entertainment system with a 9-inch fold-out screen and Blu-Ray player.

The engines spread for the Tarago remain the same with a four-cylinder powering the lower two variants and a V6 driving the top three options. Although, they have received a minor revision to now comply with stricter Euro 5 emissions standards.

A six-speed automatic transmission with manual gearshift selector is mated to the 202kW 3.5-litre V6 engine while the 125kW 2.4-litre four-cylinder motor reaches the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission.

All models have cruise control, hill-start assist, tilt-and-telescopic steering column adjustment, front and rear heater/air-conditioning, rear spoiler and remote central locking. Two front corner and four rear parking sensors are standard on GLX and Ultima. Also exclusive the top two variants are power sliding rear doors and keyless entry.
