Pesky dancers get in the way of the real star.
Toyota’s Yaris GRMN, the first hot hatch in some time, continues to tease its fans in a short video, where we get to hear it snarl for the first time. Weirdly, this performance car makes its video debut among a group of dancers, which we guess could signify the Yaris’ agility? But it’s a stretch.
The Yaris GRMN will feature a 1.8-litre supercharged petrol engine, with more than 150kW on offer, sending power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Toyota has claimed boldly that its century sprint times will be “class leading,” so it will have to dispatch the Ford Fiesta ST and Renault Clio RS, along with the new Volkswagen Polo GTI confidently.
More than just outright go, the Yaris GRMN will feature additional bracing, a limited-slip differential, shorter suspension coils, unique Sachs dampers and a larger front stabiliser bar, all harmonised with tuning from Gazoo Racing, done at the hallowed Nürburgring.
The Yaris GRMN will be offered exclusively as a three-door model, Toyota says, though our friends at Carscoops have previously spotted a five-door model out and about. The Yaris GRMN will go on sale early 2018 in Europe, where we expect to glean more details.
