Here’s the news ‘hot-hatch’ fans have been waiting for – Nissan has released preliminary details on the Pulsar hatchback range which goes on-sale next month.

And it’s the return of the sporty Pulsar SSS which headlines the all-new hatchback range. Nissan has priced the ‘comeback kid’ sharply – the SSS starting at $29,240 (around $32,433 ‘Driveaway’).

As expected the Nissan Pulsar SSS sounds like a cracker – 140kW 1.6-litre turbocharged, direct injection petrol engine, racy 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic Xenon headlights, aero body kit, satellite navigation, leather trim, reversing camera, 5.8-inch colour display screen and six-speaker audio.

One grade down from the SSS is the new Nissan Pulsar ST-S which shares the turbocharged engine but runs specs similar to the ST-L (expect the ST-S scores the 17-inch alloys).

In keeping with the now regular Nissan model range, entry to the Pulsar hatchback lineup is the ST grade (starting at just $18,990) which is powered by the 96kW/174Nm naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre petrol engine. The Pulsar ST runs 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, four-speaker audio and cloth seat trim.

Next-up and sharing the same driveline is the Pulsar ST-L which gains premium cloth trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 4.3-inch colour display, six-speaker audio, front fog lights and a rear spoiler.
