Driverless pilot program stopped in its tracks after one of their cars has a crash.

Ride-sharing mavericks Uber have suspended any and all activity regarding their autonomous-vehicle program, after one of their modified Volvo XC90 test cars had a serious accident in Tempe, Arizona.

The collision involved a fully-autonomous Volvo XC90 and two other vehicles, and was severe enough to cause the XC90 to roll onto its side. It’s believed that the incident was caused by a vehicle crossing the path of the XC90 illegally, colliding with the Volvo as well as another vehicle.

There were no Uber passengers in the vehicle at the time of the incident, though we believe that the two engineers in the front seats of the Volvo were unscathed. This comes after the driverless ride-hailing program weathered flak after one of its cars ran a red light, though it is unclear if it was a software error or manual override.

Uber will be putting the brakes on the self-driving program until a full investigation into the incident is completed.
