Ferrari, as a manufacturer of cars, traces its journey back to 1947, making this year its 70th anniversary. For this decade, though, the famed Italian marque has displayed a stunning amount of restraint, at least outwardly. The F40 and the F50 were cars specifically developed and launched as both a milestone and a statement.

For their 70th, we have this: a specially customised LaFerrari Aperta, which is already a very rare machine. Only one exists, and will be auctioned off this weekend in a sale organised with RM Sotheby’s at Ferrari’s Fiorano racetrack, an invitation-only event that’s part of a three day program of festivities in the prancing horse’s home town of Maranello.

The open-top version of the LaFerrari hypercar features one-of-a-kind livery in metallic Rosso Fuoco with metallic Bianco Italia double racing stripes on the bonnet and rear. Further, the cabin has been decked out in black Alcantayra and glossy black carbon fibre with red leather seat inserts and red stitch work.

Obviously, as it’s due to be one of the most sought after objects in the world of high end car collections, this specific LaFerrari Aperta is expected to be one of the most expensive new vehicle to sell at auction. All proceeds will be directed as a donation to the Save The Children charity, one that focuses on bringing education to children in communities all over the world.

Mechanically, this special Aperta is no different from the ‘regular’ Aperta, which is no different to the hardtop LaFerrari launched in 2013. Mounted amidship is a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated F140 V12 that’s augmented by a electric motor and energy recovery system. Together, they produce a system output of 708kW and 900Nm.
