With GM’s German brand Opel about to launch in Australia, it’s best to keep an eye on the company’s European products and here’s a sizzler – the new Vauxhall Corsa VXR ‘Nurburgring Edition’.
We already know the Opel Corsa is coming to Australia, so fingers crossed…
Power comes from a modified version of the turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine with output boosted to 150kW and 250-280Nm. Vauxhall says the powerplant has been recalibrated to use 98-octane unleaded, uses a sports exhaust with less back pressure and there have been revisions to the engine management and turbocharger operation.
A mechanical multi-plate limited slip differential manages the extra grunt.
On the chassis front, a revised spring and damper package was developed by Bilstein for the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition and honed during testing at the famed German race circuit. Part of the changes are ride height reductions (20mm at the front and 15mm at the rear).
Also tuned during Nurburgring-based development were recalibrations for the traction and stability control as well as the ABS anti-lock brakes.
Larger Brembo brakes handle the stopping power for the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition.
Externally, the high performance, limited edition Vauxhall Corsa runs new-design, high-gloss grey alloy wheels, the new stainless steel dual exhaust and ‘Nurburgring’ logos on the B-pillars and front spoiler.
Inside, the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition scores white contrast stitching for the Recaro seats and the odd Nurburgring logo or two (seat backs and door sills).
