General Motor’s UK subsidiary Vauxhall is popping the champagne corks after the brilliant Ampera was named by What Car? magazine as the Green Car 2011.
Capable of running for 80kms on pure electric power, the Vauxhall Ampera can cover over 500kms without a battery re-charge or fuel tank refill. Vauxhall calls the Ampera Europe’s first ‘zero range anxiety’ electric car.
The company plans to start taking orders for the Ampera before the end of the year.
“The Ampera takes Vauxhall into a new area,” explained Vauxhall chief Duncan Aldred. “It can genuinely be considered a car that can perform a full range of family duties, with its four-seats and five-door body. Yet its 160km/h performance and brisk acceleration mean that is can hold its own in the cut and thrust of everyday motoring, unlike many EVs currently on-sale.”
