Priced from $43,490 and in limited supply, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 35 is likely to be a collectors’ item in coming years so best move pronto to your local Volkswagen dealer.

Obviously celebrating 35 years since the first Golf GTI (the car credited with launching the ‘hot hatch’ phenomenon), the special edition model boasts extra grunt and distinctive looks.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 35 delivers 173kW (an extra 18kW over the regular GTI) and 300Nm (up 20Nm) from its turbocharged, two-litre engine which drives the front wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed DSG automatic and Volkswagen’s XDL extended electronic differential lock.

Apart from the expected ‘35’ badging, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 35 scores a unique front bumper with bi-xenon headlights (including dynamic cornering and LED DRLs), racy front spoiler winglets, smoked rear windows and rear lights, side skirts and glossy black exterior mirrors. Wheels are superb 18-inch ‘Watkins Glen’ design in either silver or grey metallic with black spokes.
