First time R-Line’s being made available further down the lineup.
Volkswagen’s local office, in a move to continue the success of the Tiguan SUV, have fielded a limited-edition variant of its impressive family hauler that brings some of the more desirable bits from up the family tree down to a more palatable price point. The Tiguan 132TSI R-Line is based on the 132TSI Comfortline, but it tacks on the desirable R-Line kit that Volkswagen says makes it the cheapest R-Line SUV they’ve ever sold.
The exterior is marked out by 19-inch alloys, R-Line bodykit and tint, Inside you get two-tone fabric upholstery, a smaller Active Info Display, and the full Driver Assistance Package replete with the intelligent cruise control with trafic jam pilot, rear cross traffic alert, emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.
It also carries over the Comfortline’s features like the LED headlights, keyless entry and go (which they call ‘Kessy’ for some reason), automatically-folding side mirrors, all-round parking sensors, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen replete with smartphone mirroring & and satellite navigation, triple-zone climate control (two in the front and one in the back), as well as a hands-free tailgate.
As it’s a 132TSI, power comes from a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine with 132kW and 320Nm, with power going to all-four wheels via a 7-speed DSG and a proprietary 4Motion system.
Should you have more money burning in your pocket or if you’re itching to spend more than the $46,990 Volkswagen will relieve you of as standard, you can add $700 for pearlescent paint, or $2000 for a panoramic sunroof.
