Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo has announced the arrival of a new variant of its V60, that promises to offer the versatility and capability that so many demand of a Volvo estate car. The V60 Cross Country is being dubbed the ‘personification of the Swedish family estate,’ and provides practicality and decent off-road capability to provide greater confidence on-road and off it.

The new V60 Cross Country is, of course, all wheel drive and sits 75mm higher than the V60 estate on which it’s based. The exterior has been given minor revisions here and there to reflect its off-road readiness, though when compared to Cross Country models of old with their wrap-around black plastic buts and bobs, the new V60 Cross Country is rather restrained. We quite like it.
In the UK, it’ll debut as a V60 D4 diesel, though the Cross Country will later include mild- and plug-in hybrid variants. It’ll also come as standard with the usual Volvo accoutrements like the 9-inch portrait-oriented Sensus infotainment screen and autonomous emergency braking as standard. It’ll also offer the Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system, incorporating lane-keep assist & active cruise control, as well as Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Run-Off Road Mitigation, and lane-change assist.
While the Volvo V60 is unlikely to make an Australian appearance, the V60 Cross Country stands a better bit. With greater versatility on a wider variety of roads, the V60 Cross Country could very well be a popular choice here, and offer an interesting, off-beat alternative to an SUV.
