Volvo will unveil the sporty R-Design model of its new V40 hatchback at the Paris Motor Show.
Power comes from either Volvo’s D2 diesel (85kW) or the T5 petrol turbo delivering 190kW.
Underneath is an optional sports chassis developed in conjunction with Volvo’s racing partner Polestar. Firmer springs and dampers and a 10mm ride height reduction are just the starters. There’s also thicker anti-roll bars and mono-tube dampers for the rear.
Visually, the Volvo V40 R-Design is distinguished by its 17-inch or 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, silk-metal framed high-gloss front grille, a new front bumper and revised DRLs. At the rear are twin exhaust tailpipes and an ironstone diffuser.
A new ‘Rebel Blue’ paint colour joins six others in the Volvo V40 R-Design lineup.
Inside, Volvo fans will immediately pick some new-generation R-Design items like seats (leather or Nubuck textile), a new steering wheel and gear-lever, new alloy pedals and black headlining. The R-Design model continues the multi-colour interactive dashboard which is a highlight of the all-new Volvo V40.
Volvo says deliveries of the R-Design V40 will start in January and Volvo Cars Australia will announce local details shortly.
