V8 Supercar driver Will Davison was today officially announced as the new driver for car number six, the Trading Post Ford Performance Racing Falcon, in the 2011 V8 Supercar Championship.
Davison has taken time out of his pre-season training camp to roar into Tamworth for the announcement, with country music sensation and one of Davison’s biggest fans, John Williamson, in town to greet him and show him around during the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival.
“I’ve always enjoyed country music and to be able to come to the Tamworth Festival to announce that I will be driving for the Trading Post Racing team for 2011 is a great privilege,” said Davison.
“I heard John was going to be playing at the Festival and it’s been great to catch up with him. Hopefully I’ll be able to make his gig while I am in town too.”
Williamson, one of Australia’s most celebrated singer songwriters, was on hand in the country music capital to welcome the new driver to the Trading Post Racing team.
“When I heard Will was being announced as the new driver for Trading Post, which is part of the iconic blue Ford team, I thought I’d come along and say g’day and welcome him to Tamworth,” said Williamson.
“One of my most well-known songs, ‘True Blue’, has become a calling card for me and I hope it becomes a calling card for Will too in 2011.”
Head of Telstra Media Classifieds, Michael Padden, was delighted to announce Davison as the latest addition to the Trading Post Racing team.
“Having Will on our team is a big coup for car number six and Trading Post, one of Australia’s favourite places to buy and sell cars and almost anything online and mobile,” said Mr Padden.
“The 2011 season will see lots of opportunities for fans and our customers to engage with Will and the team and we’ll keep you posted on some exciting appearances to come!”
Ford Performance Racing Managing Director Tim Edwards was delighted to welcome both Will Davison and Trading Post to the team.
“Finally, we can talk about it!” said Mr Edwards.
“Will comes to Ford Performance Racing with a tremendous pedigree and an outstanding record of success, including victory at Bathurst in 2009.”
“We are tremendously excited about what the 2011 season will bring.”
To celebrate the partnership, Davison signed a Trading Post Ford Performance Racing team shirt and placed it online at Trading Post to auction. To view and bid for the signed memorabilia, simply log on to tradingpost.com.
The winning bid’s proceeds will go directly to the Queensland Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal, which is raising money to help those that have been directly affected by the floods.
Davison will hit the track for the first time on board the Trading Post Racing team on January 29 at Eastern Creek Raceway for the team’s first public test session.
