Good things come to those who wait and after some delay, Nissan has completed the current Navara range with the addition of King Cab and Single Cab models.

Code-named D40, the new models join the Dual Cab variant to complete the current Navara lineup – which is actually Nissan’s top-selling model in Australia. In these days of global product sourcing, Navara Dual Cabs are assembled in Spain while the two newcomers are manufactured in Thailand.

Both the new additions are powered by Nissan’s venerable 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine. In King Cab form it delivers 126kW/403Nm while for the Single Cab it is retuned to deliver 106kW/356Nm.

Standard transmission is a six-speed manual however the King Cab has an optional five-speed automatic.

Single Cab models are fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels with 205R16 tyres while King Cab models also have 16-inch alloy wheels but ride on 255/70 R16 rubber.

King Cab models boast a towing capacity of 3000kgs and a payload of 1100kgs with the manual transmission or 1083kgs with the automatic. Tray length is an impressive 1855mm. Entry to the King Cab’s rear seats is easy via wideopening rear-hinged doors.

Climb inside and the rear seat crew have ample leg-room or the second seat can be folded flat to carry plenty of tools etc with lock-up security.

All three King Cab models are well equipped with ABS anti-lock brakes with Brake Assist, dual airbags and air conditioning.

ST-X models gain side steps, cruise control, remote central locking, power windows and mirrors plus a 6-stacker CD with MP3 facility.

Range-topping ST-X King Cab adds further features including a standard tub liner, sports bar and chrome rear step bumper.

Both Single cab and King Cab variants feature Nissan’s dependable dual-range 4X4 system and the usual off-road credentials one expects from Nissan – including ample 190mm ground clearance for the Single Cab and 205mm for the King Cab models.

Car Showroom sampled the new Navara models over a thorough media launch test track near Canberra – including on-road and off-road experiences. We came away very impressed with the performance of the diesel engine and safe, predictable handling.
