CONS

The Toyota Yaris is the perfect car for city singles looking for a long-term relationship with a reliable and fuel-efficient little run-about

The Yaris is the best-selling light car in Australia and won Green Car of the Year 2008.

Of course looks aren’t everything, but they do help! The Yaris doesn’t disappoint in this department – it’s a stylish car that’s not too girly-looking to be driven by a man, yet is still firmly in touch with its feminine side with plenty of handy storage nooks and cup-holders sure to please the ladies.

The Yaris includes all the mod cons; think power windows, tilt-adjustable steering, power door locks, remote key entry and a 60/40 split fold-down seating option; and safety features such as 3-point seat belts, front and side airbags, rear side curtain airbags, daytime running lights, side-impact door beams and an anti-theft immobiliser.

To drive, the Yaris is light (perhaps a tad too much so), easy to manage and park, has great visibility and pretty good pick-up, although a little wobbly around corners.

One of the few gripes I had with the Yaris is that the boot is one of the smallest I’ve seen – you’d be lucky to fit more than one piece of luggage in there so forget about golf-clubs or even a pram.

On the plus side, the Yaris has a great MP3-compatible stereo-system and the nifty control buttons are built into the steering wheel (handy but for safety’s sake, watch your hands stay firmly on the wheel while changing your tune). Another notable feature; the speedometer is in the middle of the car instead of directly behind the wheel, ensuring less distraction for the driver. Clever.

Thumbs up:

The stereo system (it’s MP3 compatible) and stacks of nifty storage nooks

Thumbs down:

Could be roomier (especially in the boot)
