Remember the Billie Crystal movie City Slickers where three grown men get out of the city and hit the outback? Well if there’s ever another remake, the Holden Captiva could have a starring role.

2009 HOLDEN CAPTIVA

The Captiva gives its nearest rival the Ford Territory a serious run for its money. It’s a SUV (aka an AWD or soft roader) that is practical and nimble enough for the city yet gutsy enough to get out of the rat race and hit the beaten track – think snow-fields, beaches, paddocks and muddy side-tracks.

Recently voted the number-one car of choice for Aussie women in the AutoChic Car of the Year Awards, it’s not hard to see why families would fight for the keys to a Captiva. It’s a roomy 5-7 seater (albeit of course there’s not much leg room for the extra 2 passengers, who we must assume are small children), there is loads room, accessible and smart storage options, a super-comfy interior and a funky-looking and intelligent layout. All of this and the Captiva truly represents great value for money.

Safety wise, the Captiva comes with both driver and passenger air bags, curtain airbags, ESP Rollover Protection and descent control.

The Holden Captiva is available in four models – the CX 3.2, SX 3.2, the LX 3.2 and the Captiva MaXX 3.2. The LX and MaXX models have leather-trimmed seats, 8-way adjustable driver seats and electric climate control; the CX and LX models can come with a 2-litre turbo diesel automatic, and the SX has a manual turbo 2-litre diesel variant.
