I bought it jam 2012 First new car I've bought and yes I should have gone my homework I so wish I did I've lost count at how many times it has been back for warranty work The first day I got it I got flat battery aircon wasn't working Since most of the cars body parts interior and exterior have been replaced due to breakage fading jamming etc I can't change a headlight globe so it needs to be done at service centre then I'm charged like 68.00 just discusting It takes months and months to get anything replaced Bloody worst car ever I'm not rich I'm a battler but now I'm stuck with it It makes me angry that the car salesman from Suzuki in Gosford NSW would have known I was buying a dud well he saw me coming bloody grub of a person to do this to people It's alarming that Australia has now removed the J1 from the market due to safety issues whilst driving it but what about all of us who have purchased this shit hole of a car ? It seems who cares apparently they won't sell anymore J1 chery hatchbacks but won't do anything about the ones that are driven in the country already So in other words it's bad luck Anyway please be ware Chery Cars are terrible donor get sucked into buying one The biggest mistake of my life

GAYLE'S ?LEMON CHERY J1
I Bought this car in late September 2011.
I Was a proud happy owner extolling the virtues of my lovely new little car. Six weeks later back to service centre, Clutch / gearbox jamming.
About every six weeks new and recurring problems. Clutch / gearbox jamming again. Faulty brakes, mechanism replaced now the front wheels are not coated black in brake dust. Complete system failure in traffic - Dead. back to service centre, died on the way home. Towing again. Dead again.?
Back for repairs, radio assembly replaced twice still faulty. Electrical system failure, get locked in car and have to bang and wrestle doors to get out. Brakes still juddery. Steering wheel now has noticeable vibration. Car has been back at least six times for major problems.
UN-ROADWORTHY?
A replacement car has been requested from Chery Head Office and the car yard, a big fat no!
Of course the dealer has now shut his doors, and hasn't forwarded warranty paperwork to head office.
Car is going to Springwood Chery Brisbane on Monday morning and a refund is being sought.
Of course the cigarette lighter doesn't work either.
Nothing but problems and dramas and disappointment.
Well this car sat at Springwood for 5 weeks and 4 days. Meanwhile I have continued to ask for a refund.
LACK OF SERVICE
ATECO (Chery importers) said things were happening. Springwood called me and said they were waiting for rear brake parts from China - 2 weeks. Meanwhile nobody has done the six month log book service and the car has not been serviced according to manufacturers instructions despite being in the care of service centres for about three months.
ATECO says they are not the SUPPLIERS, they are the MANUFACTURERS and IMPORTERS. They also say the car has only had /a few minor faults/ (SEVEN). The car should not have any faults.
ATECO say they have no responsibility it is up to the suppliers to refund or replace. Where do they think the salesman got the car from?
Thinking about a Chery J1 THINK AGAIN.
BUY SOMETHING ELSE!
Look up ATECO AUTOMOTIVE Pty Ltd and see what else they import.

I have had some issues with the car. It drives reasonably well, however it is sometimes difficult to hit the right gear. I have had endless problems with the door handles not opening, or sticking out from the car (in 6 months months I have replaced every door handle, some twice, and I am currently waiting on a part to replace another door handle). Supposedly, mine is the only car that is having this problem, but it is getting a bit ridiculous that the replacement parts are doing it also. I have just had the 6 month service, and it seems to have made it worse. I am now having issues with the engine cutting out on me in the middle of driving. Just before, I was turning a corner and suddenly my steering wheel locked and I couldn't accelerate. About 5 seconds later, it was fine again. So I have no idea what the service people did, but its bad. Overall the car is good for the price (I'm a student and definitely can't afford any more then the $7000 I paid for it new) . I don't have any problems with the power of it. I know how to drive it and can beat almost anyone off from the lights. Its got good fuel efficiency. However what they don't tell you is it has to have 93 or higher, which is premium. Overall, I like my little car.

My Chery j1 is only 7 months old and has had many problems , including the electronics throughout the car have failed, the doors keep jamming, the airconditioning squealing and the gear box jams me out of certain gears. all around i am not happy with the quality of this car and the dealer workshop have failed each time to fix the cars many problems.
