I don't own one, but somehow the rental car fairy has placed a Cruze Curse on me - every time I hire a car, I'm given a Cruze - mostly the 1.8 CDX...
The Pros: Solid build (I'm not sure whether this translates to reliable) and great quality feel for a car of it's size. The leather seats are good, seat heaters are pleasant, but I'd rather Holden did away with them and spent that money on the engine! The drive is zippy and cornering is good, but only about as expected from the size class of car...
Whch brings me to the negatives: The engine and gearbox are simply awful. the 1.8 is dangerously under powered. There are rattles and clunks coming from all over the car at various intervals. Turn the steering wheel full-lock and drive forward and there are knocking sounds that don't exactly exude confidence.
It's a good looking car, and I believe this is the reason why it's done so well in Australia - it certainly hasn't been because of ti's performance!
Personally, I would go for the Diesel, but that being said, in this price range there are plenty of other makes I would consider before I did buy a Diesel Cruse...
Verdict: I don't mind driving a free one, but I wouldn't spend my money on one.
