The big Isuzu wagon gets a little nip and tuck for the new year.
Ahead of a likely Thai introduction, Isuzu has teased an impending revision to its MU-X 7-seater family wagon. Expected in March, the revised MU-X will introduce sharper aesthetic details and plusher interior for the new model year.
The teaser images show slick new headlights with LED signatures, with a similar treatment applied to the taillights, and a new design to the car’s fascia. The cabin shows off new leather trim, some more forgiving materials on the dash, and hopefully a new infotainment system to replace the one that’s currently employed, which is a bugbear for many critics of the MU-X.
Isuzu Ute Australia said last week that the updated MY16 MU-X will receive a new engine for our market, which will see a little more torque under the bonnet. The revised 3.0-litre turbodiesel will put out 130kW and 430Nm, a significant 50Nm increase over the outgoing engine, and all that torque will be available between 1700rpm through to 3500rpm. There will be six-speed gearboxes, available as an automatic or a manual.
With the MU-X getting on a bit, this value-packed contender in the competitive large wagon segment should see it soldier on as the best-seller in its class, with the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner, and Holden Trailblazer all trailing the MU-X’s sales figures last year.
