CONS

Volkswagen’s sales success with the Passat lineup has broadened the appeal of the stylish sedan and wagon; however launch of the sumptuous CC model early next year takes Passat well and truly back to the luxury end of town.

Previewed at Sydney’s Australian International Motorshow, the CC has actually been sold in international markets since May.

By any measure it’s a stunning piece of work, exquisitely styled on the outside and gloriously finished inside with seats for four (fronts offering 12-way power adjustment).

Standing just 1,422 mm high, the Passat CC will be available with either TDI diesel or a direct– injection 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine. Both will drive through a six-speed DSG transmission with steering wheel paddle shifts and then to the front wheels in the diesel models or all four wheels in the petrol (Volkswagen’s 4MOTION system).

As you would expect, safety is very high on the agenda and includes eight airbags and adaptive cruise control.
